5 Movies To Watch After You Binge Firefly Lane

5 Movies To Watch After You Binge Firefly Lane

Are you finished binge-watching the new and popular show Firefly Lane that is based on the book by award-winning author Kristin Hannah? Yeah, me too! The entire time I was watching the show, I continued to get flashbacks to some of my favorite movies I watched as a teenager. Firefly Lane follows two very eccentric (yet incredibly different) women who have been friends for 30 years. Currently, there is only one season of the show so here are some great friendship, feel-good movies to watch if the show left you wanting more.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

My first recommendation is a great feel-good movie that is entirely focused on friendship, growing up, and figuring life out together and apart from your gals. This movie follows four best friends as they each navigate their first summer vacation apart from one another. Before summer break begins, they find a pair of jeans that happen to fit all of them perfectly. During the summer, they share the pants amongst each other, feeling close to their friends as they receive the jeans snail mail style.

In Firefly Lane, Kate and Tully frequently refer to the name of the street they met and forged their friendship on so, it has to be a magical street, right? Of course! Just like how the shared pair of jeans in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is bursting at the denim seams with magic. A definite watch!

The next movie to add to your list ASAP is the classic movie Beaches. This fun movie originally debuted sometime in the 80s but, the remake starring Idina Menzel is my favorite. This movie is so similar to Firefly Lane, I immediately checked it out!

Instead of following Kate and Tully, it follows another dynamic duo of best friends C.C. and Hillary. The girls meet on a boardwalk and the rest is history. They build a long-lasting friendship as they each try to figure out their place in the world, and their destinies. Bring a box of tissues (and maybe popcorn) for this one!

In Firefly Lane, Tully clearly has some mother-daughter issues. That is why my next movie pick is perfect! The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood showcases a mother and her daughter and the giant rift in their relationship that neither one of them acknowledges.  That is where the Sisters come into action. The Sisterhood gathers together and they begin an intervention on mother and daughter, to bring them back together again.

Heart-warming and fun, this movie will have you feeling good when you’re finished watching it!

Steel Magnolias

Next up is another classic, Steel Magnolias, which tells the story of a group of lifelong friends who gather around and show their support for their friend as she struggles with her daughter’s decision to have a baby, even though she is diabetic and her doctor has advised against it.

Similar to Firefly Lane, this movie shows how we all make different decisions in our lives, some good and some bad, and facing the consequences of those decisions alone can be daunting but, having the right group of friends ready to catch you when you fall makes the fall a little softer. This movie has family, friendship, and heartache. Another one to grab your box of tissues for!

Fried Green Tomatoes

My final movie recommendation is one of my most favorite movies to watch; Fried Green Tomatoes. This movie goes back and forth between the past and present-day as it tells the story of two best friends, Ruth Jamison and Idgie Threadgoode. The two strong-willed and big-hearted women run the Whistlestop Café together which is famous for, you guess it, their fried green tomatoes. This movie will touch your heart as it shows the hardships we sometimes face when it comes to life’s battles and our loved ones. Ruth and Idgie’s friendship will make you believe in having a soul-sister.

Kate and Tully seem to be soul-sisters in Firefly Lane, and that is why this movie is perfect to watch if you’re looking for another dynamic duo to fall in love with.
