Clermont County Public Library Volunteer Policy
Role of Volunteers
The purpose of having Clermont County Public Library (CCPL) volunteers is to provide individuals with the opportunity to work with library staff to enhance public service to the community; to become familiar with and serve as an advocate for the library; and to create opportunities for individuals to feel personal satisfaction while performing a valuable service.
All volunteers are required to follow CCPL’s Standards of Library Behavior Policy and the Volunteer Handbook.
Selection of Volunteers
A volunteer is a person who performs tasks for CCPL without wages, benefits, or other compensation of any kind (including travel expenses). Volunteers are not CCPL employees and do not enjoy the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities of an employee.
All volunteers must complete a CCPL Volunteer Application Form, a Release of Liability Form, and receive confirmation of acceptance before providing any volunteer services.
Volunteer candidates 18 years of age and over must complete and provide an Ohio Bureau Criminal Investigation background check at the expense of the volunteer prior to providing any volunteer services.
Volunteers are selected based upon their qualifications and the needs of the library at any given time.
Job Training and Supervision
Volunteers will work with and be trained by a designated supervisor. Volunteers are expected to take directions from the supervisor who is responsible for their work, and may be dismissed at any time and for any reason by that supervisor, the branch manager, and/or library administration.
Volunteering will occur during public service hours and when adequate supervision is available. Schedules and specific time commitments will be arranged by each volunteer and their supervisor. When unable to volunteer as scheduled, volunteers are expected to inform the Library in advance.
