Director’s Note: May & June 2023

Text reads "Director's Note"

Our annual Summer Reading challenge begins June 1 and continues until August 1. We encourage all members of your family to participate. We have great programs planned to celebrate summer and reading. We also have neat prizes you and your family can earn just for reading.

We offer the Summer Reading challenge as a way to help kids maintain their reading skills while they are not in school. By simply reading 20 minutes a day, kids may not have to spend time in the fall relearning reading skills. At the same time, you and the kids can experience other worlds in stories, learn new things like how to create a 3D print, or find a new hobby by skimming through a magazine.

No matter what you and the kids read, it counts toward finishing the Summer Reading program. Have fun this summer and make reading part of that fun.

June is Audiobook Month

June is National Audiobook Month. Celebrate by checking out an audiobook. The Library offers audiobooks in a variety of formats. You can check out Books on CD, digital audiobooks from Libby or hoopla Digital that you can download or stream. You can also check out a device called a Playaway. It’s a portable, self-contained device that has a pre-loaded audiobook on it.

The best part is that listening to an audiobook counts on your Summer Reading log.
